Northwest Elementary School
Message From the Principal

Dear Parents,

We would like to thank all of you for your help with our fall fundraiser!

We will be using the funds to help buy books for our on-line AR

program and help our intervention programs. The profit on the spring

fundraiser was $6000.00 This would not possible without all of your

help! Thanks! We are now at the end of our spring fundraiser and our

goal is to raise money to improve our playgrounds and building! We

are also asking for our community to join our MPT and help make a

difference. We feel that if we all work together we can continue to

improve our school! The MPT meeting on the 3rd went well.We will be

electing new officers next meeting. The next meeting will be 5/15/12 at

5:00.We also made plans to improve our playgrounds utilizing

community help.We appreciate all of your positive input!

Our kids have read over 24,000 books as of 5/4/12!Iím so proud of our

students for their determination to excel in reading! We are in the

midst of a culture change at NES and itís exciting!!Our goal was

20,000 books read and I promised to kiss a pig!Well, I now have to kiss

the pig in front of the entire student body! We have also passed out over

400 AR Stars and have added several students added to the AR hall of

fame.

Go Mohawks!!!

PROJECT MORE

Northwest Elementary is a Project MORE school which uses

community mentors to help children learn to read. Volunteers can be business

people, senior citizens, junior/high school students, parents, etc. Project

MORE, Mentoring in Ohio for Reading Excellence, is a volunteer reading

mentoring project designed to improve reading for students with disabilities

and has demonstrated significantly improved reading results. It has also proven

effective for students who are at risk for reading failure. Independent

evaluators from Bowling Green State University's Center for Evaluation Services

have validated that students who are reading mentored perform better than

students who receive only small group reading instruction. Each Project MORE

student will receive at least 30 minutes of mentoring 4 days per week.†† Please

join our Project More team and make a difference in a childís life! For more

information call and ask for Alisha Adkins at 1-740-259-2250 ext. 3311
